Household staff

Visas for domestic staff travelling with you.

Visit visa applications for nannies, chefs, drivers and other household employees accompanying a family to Europe, the United Kingdom or the United States.

Why it differs

A different file,
not a lesser one.

A visit visa for a domestic employee is not simply a second copy of the family’s application. These files are read differently: they typically attract closer scrutiny, often carry shorter validity than the sponsoring family’s visa, and require employment documentation that a leisure application never asks for.

Most refusals in this category come from the same place — an employment relationship that is not clearly evidenced, or a file that does not make the return to the UAE obvious. Both are things you can prepare for.

Who this covers

Nannies and governesses, private chefs, drivers, housekeepers and other staff employed in a private household, travelling with the family that employs them.

What is usually required

Requirements vary by destination and by the employee’s nationality. For Schengen destinations the set commonly includes:

  • A completed and signed application form
  • A passport photograph taken within the last six months
  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay
  • A labour contract certified by the relevant authority
  • The employer’s bank statements, evidencing financial capacity
  • A non-objection letter from the employer
  • Medical insurance covering the full stay, with the minimum cover required by the destination

We confirm the exact list for your destination and your employee’s nationality at the consultation, because these requirements change and a generic checklist is how files go wrong.

How we work on these

We prepare the family’s application and the employee’s application as one coordinated submission, so the two files corroborate rather than contradict each other — matching travel dates, matching accommodation, and a clearly evidenced employment relationship running through both.

Processing times and document requirements are set by the relevant authority and vary by destination, nationality and season. We give you a realistic window for your case at consultation. Visa approval is never guaranteed.
